About Herefordshire
Dating back to the Saxon days, the beautiful city of Hereford has a population of over 50,000 people, and it is set amid some of the most stunning countryside anywhere in the country. The Black Mountains and the Malvern Hills are on either side of Hereford, and the River Wye snakes it way through the city centre.
High Town is the hub of Hereford city centre and provides a central open space for a variety of events and street entertainment throughout the year. The range of shops, from well-known high street names through to independent retailers, offer something for everyone. Much of the city is pedestrianised making it a safe and relaxing shopping environment.
Dominating the city is the 11th century Hereford Cathedral housing the world-famous Mappa Mundi and renowned Chained Library. Both are on display inside the Cathedral.
For those who enjoy eating out, Hereford offers all the usual fast-food establishments, as well as numerous restaurants and takeaways including Italian, Chinese, Indian, and Thai.
Hereford also caters for many sports and recreational activities. The city benefits from a cinema, bowling alley, theatre, leisure centre, swimming pools, other indoor and outdoor sporting activities, plus its own football club, racecourse, and a choice of outdoor pursuits in the surrounding countryside.
